The present invention relates to a modular wooden element for making containers such as boxes or racks, having very varied shapes and dimensions. The modular element 1 has an upper surface 5 and a lower surface which are plane and parallel. At least one of these two surfaces comprises a central row of holes 9 for the mounting of pins 12 perpendicular to this surface, with a view to assembling the element 1 with other superimposed similar elements. The distances A between the axes of the holes are constant and form a module. The width of the element 1 is equal to this module and its length is a multiple of the module. Vertical walls made up of such elements can cross each other in an interwoven manner, which forms a solid structure and allows multiple combinations.
