PURPOSE:To perform the overall remote control independently of equipments, makers, or the like by assigning a function code, a device code, and a device group code in one word of a remote control signal to select an arbitrary equipment and its specific function. CONSTITUTION:A transmitter 10 which transmits the remote control signal, a home information tansmission line 30 through which the remote control signal is transmitted, a receiver 20 which receives the transmitted remote control signal, and devices 1a-1n and 2a-2n whose specific function is designated by the received remote control signal are provided. The function code indicating each function of the device to be subjected to remote control, the device code indicating the device to be subjected to remote control, and the device group code indicating the group of this device are assigned in one word of the remote control signal to select an arbitrary device and its specific function. Thus, an arbitrary device and its specific function are selected by a transmission means set for each device group, function group, or device.
