摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain the title apparatus for purifying exhaust gas uniformly and sufficiently, by laminating metal nets, which are formed by braiding a wire made of stainless steel, to form a catalyst carrier and filling a casing with said carrier. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst carrier 5 is composed of a honeycomb structure formed by laminating metal nets 6 each formed by braiding a fine wire made of stainless steel. Each of these metal nets 6 can be formed by knitting the wire into a cylindrical shape and flatly crushing the knitted one as shown by Fig 2. The metal nets 6 thus formed are wound so as to have a circular or oval cross-section to be received in shell bodies 2, 2 and both shell bodies 2, 2 are clamped to weld the flanges 3, 3 thereof. By this method, the formed honeycomb-shaped catalyst carrier 5 is firmly held in a casing 1. Further, the ribs 4 of the casing are partially penetrated in the carrier 5 to reinforce the force holding the carrier 5. Since the wire is curved in the thickness direction of the carrier by knitting, when the metal nets 6 are overlapped, gaps are generated between the metal nets to make the carrier bulky and numberless flow passages having no directionality are formed. Therefore, the gas passing through said passages receives stirring action to flow uniformly and receives uniform catalytic action.
