PURPOSE:To attain simple constitution, ease of manufacturing assembly and shock resistance and miniaturization of external shape by providing a protecting member covering both major planes of a piezoelectric element and holding its outer circumference section on its entire circumference. CONSTITUTION:A thickness shear crystal oscillator 1 consists of a crystal piece 2 performing thickness shear oscillation, and protecting gaps 3, 4 being a protecting member covering both major planes of the crystal piece 2. The crystal piece 2 is of disc shape, the beveling processing is applied to the outer circumference and the outer circumference end is made thin. Drive electrodes 5, 6 are formed on two major planes 2a, 2b of the crystal piece 2 with vapor deposition. The oscillating energy is concentrated on the center of both major planes of the crystal piece 2 with the beveling processing and the oscillating displacement of the outer circumference is almost zero. Protection gaps 3, 4 are made of a ceramic, leading sections 3a, 4a and the outer circumference of the crystal piece 2 are bonded airtightly with an insulating adhesive, and internal spaces 7, 7 are replaced into an inactive gas or brought into vacuum. |
