A description is given of a step-and-repeat machine for exposing films (3) in accordance with introduced masters (7) by means of contact printing. In this case, the masters can be fastened to a carriage which can be moved rectilinearly in one direction (x) and the films can be fastened on a table (2) which can be moved rectilinearly in a direction (y) perpendicular thereto. An optical scanning device (12), preferably a camera built into the table, serves to localise markings (13) present on the masters, and an adjusting device which is controlled by the scanning device aligns the masters with respect to the table. For the purpose of aligning the masters, it is expedient that the carriage and the table can be pivoted with respect to each other in the xy plane. <IMAGE>
