Melting point; 254-256 deg.C. EI mass spectrum; m/Z=344, etc. USE:An intermediate for producing progesterone derivatives having biological activity, such as preventing action on ovulation. PREPARATION:A strain of Acremonium.strictum NN 106 (FERM P-9143) is inoculated in a culture medium and cultivated by shaking culture. After completing the cultivation, progesterone as a substrate is dissolved in DMF so as to provide a given concentration. The resultant solution is subsequently added to the above-mentioned culture fluid obtained by the aforementioned cultivation to carry out reaction while performing shaking culture. After completing the reaction, solids and microbial cell components are removed from the reaction mixture by centrifugation and extraction of the aimed substance from the resultant supernatant is carried out with ethyl acetate.
