PRODUCTION OF VINYLCYCLOHEXANE

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance, by dehydrating 1-cyclohexylethanol in the presence of a catalyst consisting of a faujasite zeolite wherein the cation of the zeolite is an alkali metal containing Cs and/or Rb. CONSTITUTION:The titled substance useful as a raw material for heat-resistant polymer and a comonomer for polyolefin can be produced by dehydrating 1- cyclohexyletanol at 300-450 deg.C in the presence of a faujasite-type zeolite (preferably X-type zeolite) wherein the cation of the zeolite is an alkali metal containing Cs and/or Rb. The above catalyst can be produced by conventional ion exchange process and the objective compound can be produced in high selectivity and reproducibility by carrying out the reaction by a fixed bed or fluidized bed process. The activity and selectivity of a catalyst having lowered activity can be completely recovered by baking the used catalyst in air.
