A friction clutch of the type comprising a driving engine flywheel 14 and a pressure plate 12 biased to engage a driven disc 11 by springs 25, is disengaged by operation of radial throw-out levers 29 pivoting about pins 31 carried by rearwardly extending lugs fast with the pressure plate, the throw - out levers being formed with bulges 32 which, on movement of the levers, have an approximate rolling motion on abutment plates 33 adjustably secured to a cover - plate 17 enclosing the pressure plate and the driven disc. The abutment plates 33 are tapped to receive adjusting screws 41, and have tongues 35 at their inner ends engaging in slots 36 in the cover-plate. At their outer ends, the abutment plates 33 are forked and engaged ribs 34 on the cover-plate 17. Turning the screws 41 alters the axially positions of the fulcrum points of the throw-out levers 29 formed by their bulges 32 relative to the axis of the clutch, and hence enables adjustment to be made to take-up wear of the clutch linings. Blade springs 37, riveted at 38 to the abutment plates 33, bias the abutment plates radially outwards to engage their tongues 35 frictionally with the slots 36 and the cover-plate 17. The inner ends of the throw-out levers 29 are engaged by a thrust ring 42, and the usual anti-rattle springs 43 are provided. Bolts 15 pass through circumferential projections 18 formed around the cover-plate 17 to secure the cover-plate to the flywheel 14. |
