PURPOSE:To reduce a noise to a great extent with a low production cost, by a method wherein, a metal cylinder has a double tube construction made of an outer tube and an inner tube, and a space part having a specific dimension is provided in the interface between the outer tube and the inner tube. CONSTITUTION:A metal cylinder used for a platen roll has a double tube construction made of an outer tube 5 and an inner tube 6 with a space part 7 in the interface. The periphery of the double metal tube is coated with a high- hardness rubber layer, and bearings and shafts are mounted on both ends of the metal tube. The space part 7 acts to damp an energy when being subjected to vibration from the high-hardness rubber layer, thus exhibiting a good vibration-damping properties. The space part 7 having a gap (d) more than 100mum is undesirable because it results in a loose nesting of the outer tube 5 to the inner tube 6. When the tubes were mechanically coupled by cold drawing, a noise control effect superior to a conventional platen roll is realized with a gap (d) of 20mum or more. |
