PURPOSE:To surely eliminate a radiation noise by shielding it by a member for holding an optical sensor and a light source consisting of a discharge tube, and allowing a light controlling member provided between the optical sensor and the light source to have a shielding function. CONSTITUTION:A sensor 2 is formed on a transparent substrate 1 of glass, etc., and on a light shielding layer 17 and an insulating layer 18, a semiconductor layer 19 is formed. A light source 3 consisting of a xenon glow lamp is installed so as to be opposed to the sensor 2 by placing a sensor holding member 6 between. A light beam from the lamp 3 passes through a slit 8 of the member 6 and irradiates an original P, and its reflected light is read by the sensor 2. A lamp protective member 5 is formed by a conductive material, constituted so as to surround the lamp 3 together with the conductive member 6, and shields a radiation noise from an auxiliary electrode 4, etc., provided on the lamp 3. A lead wire of the lamp 3 shields through a space 7 provided on the member 6. A light controlling member provided between the sensor 2 and the light source 3 is also allowed to have a shielding function.
