Between the upper and lower vessels (5,6) of the feeder is an aperture (8), beneath which extends a plate (10) so that material (11) from the upper vessel (5) does not drop into the lower vessel (6) under the effect of gravity. On the plate are radially directed mouthpieces (39) or apertures through which gas is fed to produce a material flow over the edge of the plate. The plate (10), in conjunction with the wall (13) of the lower vessel above it, forms a gap (12) so that it combination they function as an L-valve. The plate (10) is axially movable so that the gap (12) may be varied, and in its upper position closes the aperture, so that the device acts as a cut-off valve. |
