The present invention relates to a non-perishable and washable mat for reducing perspiration and the formation of bed sores in any bedridden invalid staying seated or lying down for extended periods, intended to be interposed between his/her body and the device on which he/she rests. This device is characterised in that over a substantially constant thickness depending on the weight of the body, the said mat 1 consists of an unstructured stack of flexible lengths of a synthetic material such as vinyl, tangled together in the form of small loops 3 preferably joined at their contact points by heating close to melting or any means appropriate for the material forming the said small loops 3, which thus, on the one hand, reduce the compression and frictional zones, preventing constriction of the local blood circulation responsible for bed sores, and, on the other hand, promote the circulation of air under the body, preventing any maceration under perspiration, and even, if required, urine or alternatively faecal matter. <IMAGE>
