PURPOSE:To form a cap and a color filter in an integrated manner for reducing an amount of used materials and to simplify the assembly process for decreasing the cost therefor, by con structing an optical filter such that the surface thereof opposite to the surface on which a film of vapor deposited glass or coloring film is present is directly contacted with the outside air. CONSTITUTION:An image pickup device 2 has a beam lead 21 which is bonded to a case 1 while connected to an in-case lead. Transparent glass having a coloring film 31 is registered on the surface of a case 1 designed to keep a predetermined distance from the chip, such that the coloring sections of the filter correspond to picture elements, and the glass is sealed fixedly by means of a sealing material such as a metal, resin or the like. According to this method, it is possible to simplify a special member which has been making it difficult to assemble a solid-state image pickup device efficiently and economically, and to reduce the cost for assembling the image pickup device.
