PURPOSE:To suppress a sub pulse without decreasing the level of a main pulse by forming a recessed slot retreating from a medium opposite end face of a nonmagnetic substance film stepwise to the medium opposite end face of a base. CONSTITUTION:A slot 5 reaching the medium opposite end face 101 is provided to a position under a pole 21 of a magnetic film to a base 1 being a return path of magnetic flux and a nonmagnetic material such as alumina is packed in the slot 5 to form a perpendicular thin film magnetic head with a nonmagnetic film 6 formed. A step d1 from the medium opposite end face 61 of the nonmagnetic film 6 is selected to several mum to the medium opposite end face 101 of the base 1. The width w1 of the recessed slot 8 is selected to be sufficiently narrower than the width w2 of the medium opposite end face 101, e.g., 100mum or the like as a thin slot. In providing the recessed slot 8 in this way, a slight spacing by the recessed slot 8 is caused between the end face 101 of the base 1 being a return of magnetic flux and the magnetic recording medium to suppress a sub pulse. |
