PURPOSE:To put an electronic scale in operation corresponding to peripheral equipment only by connecting the peripheral equipment by discriminating a characteristic physical pattern for discrimination preset on the peripheral equipment side by connecting the peripheral equipment to the connector of the electronic scale, and also selecting a program to be executed automatically according to the pattern. CONSTITUTION:Programs (a), (a'), (b) and (b') for plural functions are written in a ROM 42 in addition to a program (u) for displaying a load on a pan 11 on a display device 5 as a gram value. A nonvolatile RAM 44 is provided with addresses for the storage of the discrimination result of the connected equipment. Then a connector 7 provided for the connection of the peripheral equipment and connectors 8 and 9 provided to a keyboard dedicated to the peripheral equipment are provided with terminals P4 and P5, A4 and A4, and B4 and B5 for identification respectively. When those connectors 7, and 8 and 9 are connected, the terminals A5 and B4 float respectively, the identification is carried out according to set addresses of the RAM 44, and a program is selected.
