Hollow roller for continuous heat-treatment of metal strip

Metal strip is continuously heat-treated by contact with part of the circumference of a revolving hollow drum-type roller. This is supplied with a heating or cooling medium which partly fills the interior of the drum. Roller diameter, thickness and surface finish are optimised by taking account of (1) thermal, dimensional and mechanical properties of the strip, (2) its speed of movement and temperature just before and after contact with the roller, (3) the weight and temperature of the medium inside the roller and (4) the weight and length of the roller together with its thermal and mechanical propetties properties.
