PURPOSE:To enable stale operation of the titled apparatus under optimum condition, by calculating the estimated values of the sensible heat of coke discharged from an oven, the amount of contained gas and the component of the gas from the discharging time of a coke oven, a setting period and the amount of charged coke and calculating the material balance and heat balance from the estimated values. CONSTITUTION:Red-hot coke pushed out of a coke oven 1 is transferred via a prechamber 6 to a quenching column 2 and quenched in the quenching chamber 2a with circulating gas supplied by a circulation fan 5. The circulating gas heated at a high temperature by heat-exchange is sent to a boiler 3 to generate steam and the excess circulating gas is recovered by a cyclone 7. The estimated values of the sensible heat of coke discharged from an oven, the amount of contained gas and the component of the gas are calculated from the discharging time of a coke oven, a setting period and the amount of charged coke which are a coke-discharging plan, the material balance and heat balance are calculated from the result of estimated values to obtain the data for the optimum operation plan of the above dry quenching apparatus and the apparatus is operated by controlling the timing of discharge, amount of circulating gas, amount of blasting air, amount of blasting nitrogen and amount of coke according to the obtained data.
