A welt dial of a circular knitting machine to form a double welt is provided with tricks (2) and welt instruments, (3, 4) the number of which tricks (2) equals one quarter of the number of knitting needles (6), while in each trick (2) there are preferably located two dial sinkers (3, 4) the ends of which fork away from each other. Only every fourth needle is selected at a time. The above arrangement avoids contact between the needles and welt instruments. <IMAGE>
