The process is partic. intended for graphite work. A fluid is delivered to the machining position to trap the dust and discharge it with the warf. The fluid emerges from a nozzle (8) to form a closed hollow chamber round the machining position, separated from the environment by a cylindrical or conical transparent curtain of fluid. Two such spaced curtains are pref. formed, with the fluid flow in opposite directions and inclined to each other.
