PURPOSE:To automatically correct lost motion by providing a corrector which is to bring a sensor into contact with a master gage two times by a series of lost motion measuring action being based on a program and to correct a backlash correction amount being based on a difference between the contact positions of that sensor. CONSTITUTION:Moving a touch sensor 3 toward a measuring surface 4a of a master gage 4 by a lost motion measuring program 7, when the sensor 3 comes into contact with this surface 4a, a position coordinate value Z1 of a main spindle 1 in its Z-axis direction is stored in the first memory unit 8. Next moving this sensor 3 to a measuring position in the second time, when the main spindle 1 is placed in a position with the touch sensor 3 coming into contact with the measuring surface 4a of the master gage 4, a position coordinate point Z2 of the main spindle 1 in its Z-axis direction is stored in the second memory unit 9. Next calculating a difference (Z2-Z1) between the two memory units in an arithmetic unit 10 inputting this arithmetic value to a backlash correcting unit 11, a numerically controlled machine tool corrects a change of a backlash amount due to the aged deterioration ensuring high accurate machining.
