PURPOSE:To improve corrosion resistance and wear resistance without impairing magnetic characteristics by forming a coating film of an amorphous metal on the surface of a thin film magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:The coating protective film of the amorphous metal which is a corrosion resistant metal or alloy is further formed on the surface of a head. Vapor deposition methods such as sputtering and vacuum deposition methods are adopted as a method of forming the amorphous coating film. The amorphous metal is the metal having the amorphous structure in which the atomic configuration has no regularity. Said metal has the physical and chemical characteristics not admitted with crystalline metals and has the exceedingly outstanding characteristics such as high hardness, high wear resistance, high corrosion resistance and high magnetic permeability. The remarkable improvement in the corrosion resistance and wear resistance of the head is thereby attained and the durability of the head is greatly improved. |
