PURPOSE:To obtain a compound useful as an intermediate raw material for medicines and agricultural chemicals in high yield by simple operation at a low cost, by reacting an acrylamide with a hydroxy compound in the presence of a basic catalyst in a specific amount. CONSTITUTION:An acrylamide expressed by the formula (R<1>-R<3> are H or alkyl) is reacted with a hydroxy compound expressed by the formula R<4>OH (R<4> is alkyl or aryl) in the presence of a basic catalyst (e.g. NaOH or anion exchange polymer) in a solvent, such as methanol, at 0-110 deg.C, preferably 20-65 deg.C to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula II. The basic catalyst is used in an amount of 0.001-0.50 equiv., preferably 0.01-0.25 equiv. based on 1 equiv. acrylamide expressed by formula I to carry out the reaction. The hydroxy compound is used in an amount of 1-10mol. based on 1mol. compound expressed by formula I. |
