PURPOSE:To improve dispersion stability by bringing an alkali-soluble styrene- acrylic copolymer and polyoxyethylene alkyl ether into a dehydration reaction, allowing the obtd. product to react with a specified cyclic amine and incorporating the resulting reaction product to prepare a dispersant. CONSTITUTION:An alkali-soluble styrene-acrylic copolymer having <=2,000 number average mol.wt. and polyoxyethylene alkyl ether represented by formula I (where R is alkyl, alkenyl or the like and n is an integer of 2-20) are brought into a dehydration reaction. An obtd. product is allowed to react with one or more kinds of cyclic amines represented by formula II (where X is NH or O and Y is H or lower alkyl) and/or diazabicyclo(2,2,2)octane and a dispersant contg. the resulting reaction product is prepd.
