In order to prevent the shell ring 8 of the fresh-air axial fan of a water cooling tower from freezing, the shell ring is surrounded by a channel delimited by the shell ring 8 and a collar 9, this channel being connected, at the top part, to the hot-water inlet 6 of the cooling tower and, at the bottom part, to the cooled-water tank 2, so that the channel is passed through by some of the hot water sent to the cooling tower in order to be cooled. <IMAGE>
