PURPOSE:To obtain a device which can insert a flat electronic component, such as a flat terminal or the like to a narrow space on a substrate by providing an opening restriction member for restricting the opening amount of a movable side holding member at a head block falling position and releasing the member at the head block rising position at the block. CONSTITUTION:An insertion head 1 for holding a component by a stationary side holding member 36 secured to an elevationally movable head block 35 and a movable side holding member 38 pivotally secured to the block 35 is provided. In such a component inserting device, an opening restriction member for restricting the opening amount of the member 38 at the falling position of the block 35 and releasing the member 38 at the rising position of the block 35 is provided at the block 35. For example, a chuck opening lock lever 41 is pivotally secured by a pin 42 as the restriction member to the block 35, and the lower end of the lever 41 is brought into contact with the rear end of the member 38 by a compression spring 43 to restrict its movement. A lock releasing pin 44 is elevationally slidably disposed on the block 35.
