PURPOSE:To effectively utilize a stand-by system and to reduce the load on an active system by performing off-line retrieval processing by the stand-by system and sending retrieval information by the active system via an inter-CPU communication, at a duplex constitution system. CONSTITUTION:This duplex constitution system has a means 6 which inputs a command for a retrieval request by the input means 1 of the stand-by system 200 and performs retrieval by the system 200, a means 7 which transmits and receives information to and from the active system 100 via the inter-CPU communication at the time of obtaining the retrieval result, a means 12 which sends a telegraphic message out of the active system 100, and a means 8 which sends a transmission completion report from the active system 100 to the stand-by system 200 by the inter-CPU communication again and returns it to the console 2 of the stand-by system 200. The stand-by system is utilized for the off-line retrieval to reduce the load on the active system and effectively utilize the stand-by system.
