N-acylated hydroxy-amino-arylsulphonic acids are prepd. by dissolving an hydroxy-amino-arylsulphonic acid of formula (I) in an agueous solution by treatment with an alkaline lithium salt to form a lithium salt of the sulphonic acid, and reacting the lithum salt of the sulphonic acid with an acylating agent at pH 3-6. In the formula, A is pref. benzene, naphthalene, pyridine or quinoline; R is lower alkyl or phenyl substd. by at least one substitute; m is 0-4; n is 1- 4; p is 1-2.
