PURPOSE:To suppress a large surge current by penetrating an annular voltage dependent nonlinear resistor element provided with electrodes on both end faces through a metal terminal, and further attaching a pair of metal components for forming a gap. CONSTITUTION:An annular voltage dependent nonlinear resistor element 6 provided with electrodes 7, 8 on both end faces is prepared, and a metal terminal 9 is penetrated to its inner periphery. An annular metal component 14 is attached to one end face of the element 6 to electrically connect the electrode 7 to the terminal 9, and another metal component 16 is attached through an insulator 18 to the other end face to electrically connect it to the electrode 8. Then, protrusions 15, 17 are oppositely formed on the outer peripheries of the components 14, 16 to form a discharge gap. Thus, a surge noise absorber can be also used as the outer terminal section of an electronic equipment to be highly integrated. Further, a surge current suppressing effect is enhanced.
