Disclosed is an absorbent composite material composed of a base and water-absorbing resin particles. This absorbent composite material satisfies the following conditions (1)-(4): (1) the weight ratio of the water-absorbing resin relative to the total weight of the base and the water-absorbing resin is 65-99% by weight; (2) not less than 50% by weight of the total water-absorbing resin particles is in direct contact with the base; (3) the average absorption capacity of the water-absorbing resin particles is not less than 50 g/g; and (4) the amount of residual monomer in the water-absorbing resin is not more than 200 ppm.
