PURPOSE:To attain stable and highly accurate tracking control for an erasure light spot by detecting that out-of-focus of a recording/reproduction light spot exceeds a prescribed range, stopping the movement of the erasure light spot by a tracking control means, thereby keeping the relative position between the erasure light spot and the recording/reproduction light spot. CONSTITUTION:When a focus error signal 28 of the recording/reproduction light spot 10 exceeds, the control of an erasure light spot tracking drive means 19 is stopped and to keep a current flowing to an erasure light spot tracking coil 37. Thus, the erasure light spot 21 moved independently or the information track of the recording/reproducing light spot 10 in the perpendicular direction is stopped, thereby making the relative position with the recording/reproduction light spot 10 unchanged. Thus, the jump of the erasure light spot onto the information track different from that of the recording/reproduction light spot is prevented to apply accurate tracking control of the erasure light spot.
