PURPOSE:To produce a composite member such as rolling roll having excellent resistance to wear, surface roughening and seizure and having high strength and toughness by forming a sintered layer made from high-alloy cast iron powder by a hot isostatic sintering method on the surface of a metallic base material and subjecting said layer to hardening and tempering. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical metallic capsule material C is inserted onto the torus- shaped base material 10 consisting of a low alloy steel having excellent strength and toughness and is joined by welding to said material. The powder 20 of the high- alloy cast iron having the compsn. consisting, by weight %, 2-3.5% C, <0.4% Si, <0.4% Mn, 3-6% Cr, 6-12% V, 5-14% W, 7-14% Co, 3-9% Mo, and the balance Fe is packed into the inside space of the capsule material C. This material is subjected to the hot isostatic pressurization sintering to form the sintered layer thereon and after the capsule material C is removed by machining, the material is roughly worked and is then subjected to hardening from 1,050-1,250 deg.C followed by the tempering treatment at 500-600 deg.C; thereafter, the surface is subjected to finish working. The rolling roll consisting of the sintered composite parts having the excellent characteristics as the rolling roll is thus obtd.
