The series resonance stabiliser incorporates a transformer with an iron core, the primary winding of which is series-coupled with a capacitor. The core is fed in the drive condition, and incorporates a defined air gap the size of which is determinant for a magnetising current which drives the iron core to an extent above the knee point in the core material magnetising curve. The air gap is so located that the magnetic leak flow does not affect the transformer secondary or weak winding. The core is made of two C-elements, the ends of which are brought together within two separate bobbins (41,42) carrying the transformer primary and secondary windings. The defined air gap is arranged at the union point within the primary winding bobbin, whilst air through the secondary bobbin is minimised. (Provisional Basic advised week 84/38) |
