PURPOSE:To improve the operability of adjustment while the fact of selection of adjustment mode is always confirmed by compressing a received picture in vertical direction at the start of adjustment and superimposing the service display pattern signifying the adjustment mode duration to an upper end or a lower end of the compressed received picture. CONSTITUTION:A CPU 8 reads a picture compression data stored in a ROM 17 and sends it to a deflection IC 15 through a bus 9 in receiving an adjustment mode selection signal SC. The CPU 8 controls the service display IC 16 succeedingly and displays the service display pattern SPA signifying the adjustment mode under selection to the upper or lower end of the compressed received picture. Thus, even when the upper/lower part of the received picture due to a large amplitude of the vertical deflection signal at the start of the adjustment is missing, since the service display pattern is surely displayed on the upper or lower end of the received picture on the screen, the operability of adjustment is further improved.
