PURPOSE:To provide a material for soft contact lenses which is high in permeability to oxygen, is hardly blemished, and is excellent in resistance to boiling for disinfection, by incorporating a specific (meth)acrylate radical-polymerizable monomer in a predetermined amount. CONSTITUTION:20pts.wt. or more radical-polyerizable monomer of formula I (wherein X is H or methyl; R is a group of formula II or III; and p is 1-4) is incorporated in 100pts.wt. whole polymer components which will compose a material for soft contact lenses. As a specific example of the monomer of formula I, (methoxyethoxyethoxypropyldimethylsilypropyl)dimethylsilylp-ropyl acrylate can be mentioned. The monomer of formula I is synthesized by reacting a compound of formula IV with chloropropyldimethylsilane to produce a compound of formula V, and reacting this compound with (meth)acrylic acid.
