<p>The circular heading machine is track mounted and self propelled, and has a machine body (11) at the forward end of which is a forwardly directed cutter boom (12). A crane (14) having a base (18) and compact folding arms (19-21) are mounted on each side (17A, 17B) of the machine. Each crane (14) is rotatable about its base and mounted on a frame (15A, 15B) which is slidable on a longitudinal track frame (bracket 16A, 16B) on the machine body. Each crane (14) is extendable between the rear of the machine body and beyond the front of the machine body and is adapted to transport tunnel support segments (27) at the rear of the machine to a location in advance of the machine for the erection of tunnel support rings (28). Each crane (14) is moved along the track frame by rack and pinions (44, 47). Each crane (14) is adaptable to carry a clam shell bracket (25) or a detachable lifting bracket (30) for connection to a ball-end adaptor (31) attachable to a tunnel support segment (27). The clam shell bracket (25) is provided to dispose of spoil from in front of the machine on to a gathering apron (40) at the forward end of the machine. The cutter boom (12) carries a platform (13) for a roof-bolting drilling machine (13').</p> |
