PURPOSE:To make it possible to satisfactorily align paper sheets by resting a paper aligning plate adapted to reciprocate so as to align the side faces of paper sheets, at a position at which the plate approaches at most the side faces of the sheet during reciprocating cycle. CONSTITUTION:Discharged paper sheets 1 are stopped by a stopper 5, and are stacked on an elevating bed. During such stacking operation paper aligning plates 6, 6 on both sides and a front paper aligning plate 8 reciprocate to align the paper sheets 1 stacked on the elevating bed while the paper aligning plates 6, 8 make contact with the end edge of a sheet 1 so as to check the sheet 1 at a predetermined position, and therefore it is temporarily rested. During this period, air below thus aligned sheets 1 is relieved so that the sheets 1 are difficult to move, and accordingly even though the paper aligning plates 6, 8 are retracted thereafter, the paper sheets 1 never slip and move back and forth, and right and left. Accordingly, the paper sheets may be satisfactorily aligned and stacked on the elevating bed.
