A solid state image sensor has a photosensor region on a substrate. The photosensor region has a number of photocells for recording an image. It can change the image interrogation mode when image interrogation points for the incident image are displaced. Formed in the photosensor region is a number of first transmitting elements which pick up the signal charges of connected photocells and push them out. Also formed on the substrate is an intermediate storage region which has a number of second transmitting elements for each of the first transmitting elements. Each of the second transmitting elements can pick up all the signal charges from the corresponding first transmitting elements, which are read out at the same time by the photocells.
