PURPOSE:To industrially and advantageously obtain the titled compound useful as an ampholytic surfactant, etc., by reacting a specific hydrocarbon-substituted amine compound with a silane compound to form a reaction product having amino or imino group and reacting the resultant reaction product with a functional carboxylic acid. CONSTITUTION:A hydrocarbon-substituted amine compound expressed by formula I (R<1> is monofunctional hydrocarbon, one of three R<2> is H and other two are H, 1-4C alkyl or phenyl; Q is 1-7C alkylene or phenylene; n is 0 or integer of 1-4) is reacted with a silane compound expressed by formula II (Y<1> is alkyl having functional group reactive with amino or imino group in the compound expressed by formula I; R<3> is alkyl; R<4> is alkyl or acyl; a is 0, 1 or 2) and the resultant reaction product is then reacted with a functional carboxylic acid expressed by formula III (Z<1> is functional group reactive with N atom) to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula IV (M<1> and M<2> are groups expressed by formulas V, VI, etc.).
