PURPOSE:To easily obtain position information without using a ROM in which a defective position is recorded, by obtaining the information of the defective position by connecting terminal parts whose vertical and horizontal selection lines corresponding to a defective picture element are opened with each other. CONSTITUTION:Vertical shift registers 5 are provided corresponding to each of the vertical selection lines 7 in addition to a conventional element, and they are connected to the selection lines 7 and one end of the terminal part 8. The other end of the terminal part 8 is connected to the input terminal of an AND circuit 10 by a common line 9. Also, horizontal shift registers 6 are provided corresponding to the horizontal selection lines 13, and they are connected to the selection lines 13 and one end of the terminal part. The other end of the terminal part 11 is connected to the input terminal on the other side of the AND circuit 10 and each of the horizontal selection lines by a common line 12. When the defect of a picture element is found in a solid-state image pickup element constituted in such way, the information of the defective picture element can be obtained by selecting alternatively the vertical and horizontal selection lines corresponding to a row and a column including the position of the defective picture element. Thus, it is possible to easily obtain the position information of the defective picture element by connecting the vertical line 7 and the horizontal selection line 13 including the picture element to the AND circuit 10 making the ROM unnecessary.
