PURPOSE:To constitute a logical storage device of plural small external storage devices and to make the characteristics of the logical storage device coincide with that of a large storage device by displaying excess of record on state information at the time of writing records exceeding the residual storage capacity of a track and dividing the record to write it. CONSTITUTION:Areas for recording recording position information 601 and state information 602 displaying whether the record is dividedly recorded in another track of not are formed in each record recorded on a track. When the writing of record exceeding the residual storage capacity of the track is detected by calculating the residual storage capacity of the track from the total storage capacity of the track and a record position information 601 at the time of writing the record, the excess of the record is displayed on a record state information 602 and the record is dividedly written in the track and a previously fixed track. Consequently, the characteristics of the system is allowed to coincide with that of a large storage device, and rewriting of software can be omitted.
