PURPOSE:To record a still picture throughout a wide band while maintaining a compatibility with a moving picture recording format by temporarily storing a video signal from an image pickup means, and providing the picture memory of the storage capacity of at least one field and a memory means. CONSTITUTION:The video signal from an image pickup circuit 10 is inputted to a mixer 24 through a matrix circuit 14, an FM modulator 16. Then, the output of the mixer 24 is supplied to the a contact of a switch 60 and an A/D converter 50 and the output of the converter 50 is sequentially written in the field memory 52 having the storage capacity of one field under the control of a memory control circuit 54. Then, when a recording of the still picture is instructed, a system controller 58 switches a switch 60 to a (b) contact side and feeds a still picture recording instruction signal to the circuit 54. The circuit 54 prohibits to write to the memory 52 according to this instruction signal to repeatedly read the storing signal of the memory 52 for every prescribed time. Consequently, the contents of the memory 52 are repeatedly recorded on a magnetic tape 30 and the still picture can be recorded throughout the wide band without changing the recording format.
