PURPOSE:To enable easy production of a large-sized glass block in a short time using a sol-gel process, by treating a wet gel using a specific method and sintering the gel after drying. CONSTITUTION:A glass is produced by a sol-gel process comprising the production of a liquid sol using a metal alkoxide as a main raw material, gelatinization of the sol into a wet gel and the sintering of the gel after drying. In the above process, the wet gel is subjected to the following treatment. (A) The wet gel is immersed in a solvent having high volatility (e.g. alcohol) for >=1 day. (B) The wet gel is taken out of the solvent and immersed in a non-volatile solvent (e.g. water) for 1hr - 10 days. |
