PURPOSE:To automatically display and output a character recognizing rate by comparing recognition data received from a character reading means which reads a sample document sheet for character recognizing test with text data corresponding to the stored sample document sheet and calculating the character recognizing rate from the number of times of the result of said comparison. CONSTITUTION:A comparison means (d) compares the recognition data given from a character reading means (scanner) (a) which reads a sample document sheet for character recognizing test where the characters are written with the text data corresponding to the text data corresponding to the sample document sheet stored previously for decision whether the characters are decided accurately or not for each character. Based on the number of times of said deciding result, a recognition factor arithmetic means (e) calculates and outputs a character recognizing rate. Thus the automatic display and output of the character recognizing rate is attained easily in simple constitution. Then the density, etc., of a character reading means can be controlled easily and properly.
