PURPOSE:To prevent the smearing of a recording paper with an ink or folding of an ink ribbon from occurring, by releasing the pressing of a printing head against a platen in the condition where take-up of the ink ribbon is stopped, and again driving the ink ribbon after the head is separated from the recording paper. CONSTITUTION:When the final dot in a printing line is printed, take-up of an ink ribbon 10 is stopped in the condition where a carriage 1 is continuedly moved. The pressing of a printing head is released in this condition, so that a take-up tension is not exerted on the ink ribbon 10 at the moment the head 3 is separated from a recording paper 11. Therefore, no slip occurs between the paper 11 and the ribbon 10, and contamination of the paper 11 does not occur. With the head 3 separated from the paper 11, the ribbon 10 is again taken up for a predeterimed period of time, so that a slack in the ribbon 10 is straightened, and the ribbon 10 is prevented from being folded at the start of printing of the next line. |
