The brake mechanism has application components (9a,9b), fitted on the power transmission unit (8), and which under the control of the pressure medium are applied against the outside of the cylinder tube (1) or against a strip covering the slots. The components are applied with low friction through sliding or rolling, and the braking effect is produced by the piston (4,14a,14b), under the influence of the application components, being applied with friction against the inside of the cylinder tube (1). At its axial end parts, the piston (4) has two support rings (14a,14b) which during movement and in the absence of radial forces have relatively low friction against the interior of the cylinder tube (1), but when radially applied against the inside of the cylinder tube the degree of friction is relatively higher. The piston support rings are of a thermoplastic material, possibly contg. a filler to increase friction, such as talc or fibreglass. |
