PURPOSE:To further enhance ink transfer properties and image quality, by setting the gap between an energy-applying means and an ink-transferring means to be equal to or slightly smaller than the gap between the ink-transferring means and a transfer medium. CONSTITUTION:The positional relationships of an ink-transferring roll 1, a recording electrode 5 and an intermediate transfer roll 6 are preferably so set that the gap d1 between the surface of the roll 1 and the electrode 5 is equal to or slightly smaller than the gap d2 between the surface of the roll 1 and the surface of the roll 6 at a position for transferring an ink image 2a. Since a fluid ink 2 is viscoelastic, it shows an increasing strain while a constant pulsed stress is applied thereto, but shows elastic recovery the moment the stress is removed. Therefore, where the pulsed stress is regarded as a stress exerted when the electrode 5 makes contact with an ink layer, the thickness of the ink layer at the time of a maximum strain corresponds to the gap d1 between the roll 1 and the electrode 5. The ink layer achieve elastic recovery while being brought to a position for making contact with the roll 6. |
