Sorting conveyor for upright bottles - uses reversing guides forming bend one end of conveyor with belts travelling in opposite directions

Bottles advanced upright by a feed conveyor (2) towards a cross conveyor (4) are guided around a bend near one end of the cross conveyor before they are formed into a single row (3) for discharge from the other end of the cross conveyor. The bottles are in e.g. four rows on the feed conveyor and the cross conveyor is divided into nine parallel sections (5 to 13), only one (13) of these sections being used for discharge. Some sections (5 to 10) travel in the opposite direction to the remaining sections (11 to 13). The change of direction is assisted by a U-shaped sheet (15) and a second sheet (18) which terminates at a point where one conveying section (10) is adjacent to another section (11) travelling in the opposite direction. ADVANTAGE - Sorting is smooth, without bottles being knocked together, within a minimum sized zone.
