PURPOSE:To obtain the titled composition, containing a nitromethylene derivative, such as 1-(5-thiazolylmethyl)-2-(nitromethylene)imidazolidine, and a compound selected from carbamates, such as propoxur, in combination and capable of exhibiting synergistic action. CONSTITUTION:An agricultural and horticultural insecticidal composition containing active substances consisting of a nitromethylene derivative expressed by formula I (R<1> is thiazolyl which may be substituted by a halogen or alkyl; m is 2 or 3) and at least one compound selected from carbamates expressed by formula II [R<1> is aryl, heterocyclic ring or oxime; R<2> is H or alkyl; R<3> is alkyl or formula III (R<4> is alkyl; R<5> is alkyl, alkoxycarbonyl or alkoxycarbonylalkyl)] (e.g. isoprocarb) in combination at 1:0.1-20, especially 1:0.2-15 weight ratio. The above-mentioned composition is effective against insect pests, such as planthoppers, leafhoppers, insect pests in paddy field, insect pests, such as aphids, of horticultural crops, such as fruit trees or vegetables.
