PURPOSE:To contrive small thickness, excellent acid resistance and oxidation-resistance, small electric resistance together with excellent heat resistance and improved productivity of the separator in the caption by uniting together two layers consisting of a web layer formed by wet paper-making process on glass fibers and silica powder and a glass fiber layer subjected to wet paper-making process through adhesion along the total area of sheets by means of the same binder. CONSTITUTION:A web layer 2 is formed in such a manner that a mixture consisting of fibers mainly including 22-40wt.% of glass fibers with 0.8-3.5mu average diameter, 57-77wt.% of silica powder with specific surface polyester fibers added thereto, provided that the total of fibers and silica powder is assumed to be 100, is subjected to wet paper-making process to set up density 0.2-0.4g/cm<3>. A glass fiber layer 3 is formed with glass fibers of 10-20mu average diameter and acrylic binder equivalent to 10-20wt.% of glass fiber subjected to wet paper-making process to set up average density 0.17-0.25g/cm<3>. These two layers are stuck to each other over the total area of the sheets of two layers to be integrated by means of acrylic binder. Then, a separator 1 for a lead storage battery provided with a glass mat, which has small thickness, excellent acid-resistance and oxidation-resistance, small electric resistance together with excellent heat resistance and high productivity can be obtained. |
