A method for making a catalyst based on silicon and phosphoric acid at which porous granules or bodies, e.g. spheres, pellets or blocks, of silicon dioxide having a mean diameter of at least 1 mm and a high pore volume and pore size are used as carrier material. The granules or bodies are impregnated with phosphoric acid, after which they are dried at 100-300 DEG C and calcinated at 200-700 DEG C for binding the phosphoric acid to the carrier material. The calcinated material is then wetted with phosphoric acid, water or water vapour. |
